Spring Recap:On the road, on the ground, in the community

  • This spring, our DirectorKortnee Borden, and National Executive DirectorMarie Kelly, went global at the SCAPR General Assembly in Ljubljana, Slovenia, joining performer societies from around the world to discuss best practices and how to strengthen rights for performers globally.

  • Administrator Bonnie Fedrau was on the ground from May 7–11 at the ACTRA RACS sponsored East Coast Music Awards in St. John’s, NL, for their 37th year with an exciting week of one-on-one meetings, discussions around rights and royalties, industry programming, and music showcases—where many of our members took home awards!

  • Keeping east, Bonnie was also at MusicPEI’s Canadian Song Conference for the panel You Gotta Fight…For Your Rights: Collecting Royalties on May 29, helping artists understand income streams, rights, and how to get paid.

  • On the home front, we hosted an “Open Haus” during Departure Festival + Conference at ArtHaus on May 8–9—connecting with performers and answering questions about neighbouring rights.

  • We also led a workshop at Venus Fest on May 15: Royalties – Let’s Get You Paid, where Administrator Maria Pettler delivered an empowering session on rights and royalties for women and gender-diverse artists.

  • Finally, in the first week of June, Maria had meetings with artists who were in town attending (and showcasing at) the International Indigenous Music Summit
